Merry Christmas from Sugar Apple

Merry Christmas to All!

Merry Christmas to All!

I should have known it was a bad sign when our local telephone company, Cable & Wireless, changed its name to Lime.  It’s like AT&T renaming themselves Chill or Laze.  For those of you not up on your Caribbean lingo, to lime is to basically hang out and do nothing.  As in – “what are you doing tonight?”.  “Nothing, just limin’.”  Which goes some way to explaining why our internet access has been so spotty of late and why there are no recent Sugar Apple posts.  They can’t blame the lack of service on the snow that’s hit just about everywhere but here. Oh well…they must be doing some Christmas limin’.

I’ve certainly been in the kitchen a lot, it being the holidays and all.  I hope to be back to full service right after Christmas and able to post recipes for all the lovely things we’ve been cooking through the holiday period.  There’s Trinidadian black cake, barbecued pork shoulder stuffed with fresh fennel and penne alla Norma.  Tonight’s Southern Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes should yield some contenders.  And I’ll try to wrest the recipe for Hanukkah latkes that our friends Yael and Steve brought to our Christmas party.  They were so good Audrey was stealing them from the table by the handful, filling her pockets and running away to eat them in peace.

In any event, I hope that your holidays are filled with love, joy and peace, and that you’re surrounded, as I am, by those you love.   Irie Christmas to all!
