Band Aid for Haiti

Band Aid for Haiti

I’d like to invite all the BVI-based readers out there to the Band Aid for Haiti concert at Cedar International School tonight at 7 p.m.  The kids promise great music, good food and hula dancing.  Food and drinks will be on sale (including Devica’s pholourie with green mango chutney) and proceeds will go to Save the Children’s Haiti Earthquake Children in Emergency Fund.

Grade 12 has also organized a food drive and placed boxes in the atrium to collect food donations (pull-top for canned goods please).  The food items will be shipped to Haiti in a container leaving Tortola on February 13.

If you can’t make it to Cedar tonight, you can also drop items off at St. Williams Catholic Church tomorrow, February 6, between 10 a.m. and 4 pm.  The BVI Haitian Disaster Relief Effort (BVI HDRE) is collecting donations of food, clothing and other supplies to be sent to the town of Les Cayes.  Located just south of Port-au-Prince, Les Cayes is the hometown of many members of the BVI’s Haitian community.

The HDRE is asking for donations of food items like powdered milk, water, long-life milk, peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, as well as canned fish, meats and beans with pull-top cans.  Items such as flashlights, batteries, tents, disposable diapers, baby wipes and women’s sanitary products would all be appreciated.

The HDRE, together with organizations in St. Martin and Anguilla, are hoping to send ten 40-foot containers of food and supplies to Les Cayes and are committed to providing both short and long-term support to Haiti.  Let’s all join them and do whatever we can to help our island neighbors as they work to rebuild their community and their lives.

Go Abigail! Recognized by a French cuisine site? How exciting.

And is Audrey performing at the show? BTW, you need to counsel your sister; she is quite in a huff over the best restaurants in Atlanta all closing for their dead time during the super Bowl, – the very time she wanted to go, to avoid the Super Bowl. I say it’s a perfect time to drink a lot, socialize and watch some great ads but she is inconsolable! :)

Can’t believe the restaurants are closing. Not everyone is a football fan, though we will be eating chili and nachos and watching the game at home. Amy can always make a nice dinner, open a good bottle of wine and invite some non-football fans over for dinner.
